Discussion Non Economic Development Essay
* Why might a country in an early stage of economic and technical development want to limit importation of goods from more developed countries? They might want to sale the same products that these developed countries already have mastered and marketed well. It might be in there interest to enact protectionist legislation. They want to be able sale as much of their domestic product without competition from dominant developed countries firms. This would increase the market share available to sale to their citizens. * When the U.à S. enacts tariffs on lumber imported from Canada who in the U. S. benefits from that tariff (not counting the government itself since thatââ¬â¢s where the money paid as a tariff goes)? Whoââ¬â¢s hurt? U. S. lumber companies and its stakeholders all benefit from tariffs enacted by the Federal government against lumber imported. This makes U. S. lumber companies more competitive and limits the amount of Canadian lumber able to enter US markets. US consumers are hurt by these tariffs we are not able to get the best possible price. It is not good for commerce in general for the government to be creating artificial prices. The market should be creating prices through supply and demand from interactions between buyers and sellers. * What is the impact of global commerce on world peace? Global commerce is helpful in some areas but it can be the thing that will start the next world war. For centuries man has been fighting over the right to control markets and be able to do business in certain parts of the world. There are obviously not enough resources for every country to be strong producers of products as the United States. It is a fact of capitalism that everyone cannot be the rich. Every country canââ¬â¢t be sellers of the same product. The closest possible thing we can do is get some equality. I do not see how developing countries can advance to the level of US-like status without the US or other developed countries declining.

Industrialised Countries Essay
ââ¬ËNewly industrialised countries have been, and continue to be, the driving force of globalisationââ¬â¢ To what extent do you agree with this statement Globalisation can be seen as the increased flow of goods, services and information across countries, and it is driven by rapid technological growth and increased connectivity between countries of the world. It also establishes and maintains economic and political relations between these countries. Some of the factors that have affected globalisation include technological innovation as it had made transport and communication around the world easier, trade has also played an important role in encouraging globalisation. Trade between countries in the developed world and the developing world has specifically been the biggest driving force of globalisation. Newly industrialised countries or NICââ¬â¢s are countries whose economies have not yet reached first world economic status but their economic growth are still increasing more than other developing countries. NICââ¬â¢s are switching their current agriculture-based economy into a more industrialised, urban economy. Current NICs include China, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Philippines, Thailand and Turkey. The average growth rate between these countries is approximately 7.6% compared to the world average of 3.7%. The first group of NICââ¬â¢s came from the Asia area, they included Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. They called these the Asian Tigers. The Asian Tigers were notable for maintaining exceptionally high growth rates (in excess of 7% a year) and rapid industrialization between the early 1960s and 1990s. By the 21st century, all four have developed into advanced and high-income economies. There are several factors that make Newly Industrialised countries the driving force of globalisation. Firstly, most newly industrialised countries have a large population; this makes the countries more attractive for investment as these countries have lots of cheap labour. Therefore, these countries seem more attractive to TNCââ¬â¢s as they can make more profits when the cost of labour is cheap. A Transnational Corporation or a TNC is a privately owned company that is based in 2 or more countries. They take advantage of the NICââ¬â¢s cheap labour and large growth rate. For instance Toyota is one of the worldââ¬â¢s leading car manufacturers and is the third largest in the world. Although based in Japan, Toyota produces most of its cars in its transplants in Georgetown, Kentucky, and Burnaston and Derbyshire.
Pretty Little Liars
Malone, Mariaun The tone and theme affect the mood in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by telling what the main idea of the story will be about. The tone is a mixture of funny, playful, and horror. The headless horseman is known by bad things but he is used to do funny things. The theme of the story is love and community. Mood, tone, and theme all have something in common because it puts together the book. The mood is boring, foreshadowing, suspenseful, and scary. The author described things scary and tried to help us to know what might happen. This book did not catch my attention because it did not have much action. Ichabod loved Katrina Van Tassel. â⬠He had a soft spot and foolish heart toward the sex. â⬠(pg. 18). He is expressing his deep love for her. His love for her is crazy, soft, and foolish. ââ¬Å"When school hours were over, he was even the compan and playmate of theâ⬠¦.. â⬠(pg. 10) This quote shows the theme of community. It exhibits how Ichabod helped out i n the community. ââ¬Å"His bussy fancy already realized his hopes, and presented to himâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 22 .Brom and Ichabod both liked Katrina. Brom was trying to make Ichabod look crazy and weird in front of her. The tone of the book is funny, playful, and horror. ââ¬Å"Just then he heard the black steed panting and blowing close behind him, he evenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 63) The headless horseman chasing after Ichabod crane showed the theme of a playful book. It was not really the headless horseman. It was Brom trying to scare crane because of his jealousy. He was jealous of Ichabod and Katrina. ââ¬Å"Always burst into hearty laugh at the mention of the pumpkin. â⬠(pg. 7) Brom was laughing when they mentioned the pumpkin when Crane was brought up. ââ¬Å"Certain is the place still continues under theâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. 3) In this book there are lots of spells and weird creatures. The headless horseman is an example of a weird creature. The mood of The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow is foreshadowing, suspenseful, and scary. ââ¬Å"The bridge became more than ever an object. â⬠(pg. 63) The author was foreshadowing that something might happen to or on the bridge. Also, that the bridge was haunted. ââ¬Å"There is a little valley, or rather lap of land, among high hillsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (pg. ) This quote is foreshadowing and scary. This foreshadows what type of place Sleepy Hollow was. This makes the reader think that Sleepy Hollow might be a place where weird thing happen. in this quote he was describing Sleepy Hallow. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was boring but described in a scary way. This book was a book of fantasy. Irving could have had better dialogue by using real characters and having more action. The story revolved around the theme of the story. The book had a horror tone but this did not affect theme love and community.

The Death Penalty is not an Effective Punishment Essay - 9
The Death Penalty is not an Effective Punishment - Essay Example Counterargument to refute the first argument: the claim that death penalty deters crime is a mere presumption, with no scientific proof. A number of studies have shown that death penalty does not deter crime. Hence, the first argument is incorrect. Counterargument in refutation of the second argument: death penalty does not ensure justice for the offended party because by killing the offender, the offended party does not get back what they were deprived of. Again, death penalty may be not the gravest form of punishment. Third argument by the proponents of my view: death penalty is an effective form of punishment because it prevents overpopulation of prisons; death penalty also prevents the criminals of grave crimes from committing crimes while in prison, or breaking from the prison to commit crimes outside the prison. Counterargument to refute the third argument: although jailing of criminals guilty of grave crimes may provide the criminals with some possibilities of committing more crimes in future, with proper preventive measures in place, however, the possibilities of committing more crimes by the prisoners will be quite minimal. Death penalty is undoubtedly one of the oldest and most common forms of punishment meted out against heinous and grave crimes in many cultures and world civilizations. In USA, for instance, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the year 2009 alone, 52 inmates were executed. The advocates of death punishment also contend that death punishment is the most effective form.

Why do women have facial hair or body hair. What is causing this Research Paper
Why do women have facial hair or body hair. What is causing this phenomena. Can it be cured or changed - Research Paper Example All people have hormones in their bodies that stimulate growth of their bodies and facial hair. It hence depends on the level of hormones secreted, the number of the hair follicles in an individualââ¬â¢s body, and how sensitive they are to be stimulated for growth. Any other conditions or substances introduced into the body that trigger overproduction of the hormones could contribute to excess body and facial hair. This is normally associated to the male gender for its masculine effect. However, women also produce the sex hormone in their adrenal glands and ovaries. Androgen aids in production of oestrogen that serves a greater role in female sexual desires, emotions and satisfaction. Testosterone and adrenal androgens are the main types of the hormone in women; they are released into the blood stream and also produced at the body tissues (body fats and skin) after conversion of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and androstenedione (A) into androgens at the cells, skin, and hair follicles (Monash University, 2010, p.1). Male bodies produce more of the androgen hormone than women, which is necessary for development of their masculine features (muscles, deep voice, body hair on their chest, inner thighs, arms and lower abdomen and facial hair like mustache and beards among others). Similarly, a high level production of androgen (testosterone) hormone in excess would stimulate excess facial and body hair production in women among other masculine features, a condition termed Hirsutism (Jacoby and Youngson, 2005, p. 2196). As a result, the highly sensitive parts to androgen in womenââ¬â¢s bodies have stimulated thick and darker hair growth. This is because the hair follicles in those parts are more sensitive and the higher the number of the follicles, the more the excessive hair on their bodies. Certain diets affect the production of testosterone hormone in a womanââ¬â¢s body. Diets that contain zinc minerals can help to activate testosterone production,

Health Information Technology (HIT) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Health Information Technology (HIT) - Essay Example So, THP will also strive to ensure that all medical information is absolutely trustworthy and clear. This is bound to require many imaginative innovations in information-sharing technology, but it will also ensure security to patients and take care of their concerns in an optimally effective manner. Securing patientsââ¬â¢ records is a big problem for the healthcare industry. First, it should be understood that healthcare security provided through the use of HIT is very different than other forms of business IT infrastructure (Peterson, cited in Hulme, 2011). This difference is important to acknowledge many challenges encountered in providing healthcare security which will be explored and addressed in THP. For example, there is this challenge that often healthcare professionals tend to be suspicious of cybersecurity, so they resist this. This resistance becomes a hurdle in the provision of trustworthy healthcare services to patients. Research claims that less financial investments are made by the healthcare industry in the area of IT security than any other industry. It is reported by the Community Health Systems that hackers stole ââ¬Å"sensitive information on approximately 4.5 million patientsâ⬠(Lemos, 2014). This shows that HIT is still not taken as seriously as it should be to deliver trustworthy healthcare. It is due to this reason that the security expert David Kennedy claimed healthcare to be the ââ¬Å"most breached industry in 2011â⬠(Brenner, 2011). If this challenge is effectively handled, HIT can be satisfactorily secured. In THP, cloud systems will be used to protect patient information. Research suggests that majority of cloud services employed in healthcare run medium to high security risk. Skyhigh Networks is a popular cloud security vendor and recently, it made a statement that ââ¬Å"more than 13% of cloud services used in healthcare are highââ¬âriskâ⬠(Munro, 2014). However, the

Argumenttative - Research Paper Example Euthanasia is unacceptable from Christian point of view since it violates the principles of Christianity through contradicting the will of God, violation of societyââ¬â¢s recognition of the sanctity of life, contradicting Christian idea that suffering has value, and paving path for involuntary killing of people who are no longer desired to be a part of the community. Besides, attempt will be made to disprove several major anti-euthanasia arguments from the perspective of Christian anthropology. Historically, debates on ethical relevance of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide go back to ancient Greece and ancient Rome. There euthanasia was a regular practice. According to credible historical sources, lots of Romans and Greeks opted for ââ¬Å"voluntary death over endless agonyâ⬠, so that ââ¬Å"this form of euthanasia was an everyday realityâ⬠¦and many physicians actually gave their patients the poison for which they were askedâ⬠(Manning 6). The voluntary essence of dying was emphasized, so that euthanasia was totally justified as a way to bring end to suffering from an incurable illness. Only with the advent of Hippocratic school was euthanasia ultimately rejected in medicine (Fernandez 2). With the spread of Christianity in Europe, the philosophical ban on euthanasia practice initiated by Hippocrates and his followers was supported as the one that corresponded to the Revelation. The new religion taught that every person possessed invaluable worth since he/she was created in Godââ¬â¢s image and likeness. Given this, the majority of European doctors had refused from euthanasia by the turn of the 15th century. This was the case until the Nazi coming to power in 1930s with their programs of involuntary euthanasia massively run during the Holocaust (Emanuel 793). In his ââ¬Å"History of Euthanasia Debates in the United States and Britainâ⬠, Emanuel rightfully observes that debates about euthanasia in the States and in the UK which
